A story of individual intent to collective action

In the early months of 2019, the seed of an idea was planted. Sown with care, watered with passion, and aired with like-minded individuals’ contribution, it grew. It grew into Regeneratree.

Regeneratree, a tree-planting initiative, began with one student’s worry about ourPlanet’s current environmental situation. With the Amazon forest on fire, air pollution levels and water levels rising, it was clear that someone needed to take action.

Karma is a clear concept here- what we are doing to our forests, is simultaneously affecting us. As of today, we are past the point of stopping climate change and its vicious cycle; we can no reverse it, but only adapt to it.

In an attempt to make a difference; no matter how small, Regeneratree was started. It aims at engaging people from all walks of life and of all age groups; planting saplings multiple times a year and taking the appropriate actions so that they survive. The collaborated efforts of ENSYDE and volunteers has given way for this effort to become a successful reality.

Students, companies and individuals were all invited to the first campaign conducted on September 14th, 2019. To our surprise, the student outreach was tremendous, with children as young as 8 years old, joining us. Parents, volunteers and children spent the day planting these saplings, using the appropriate sowing methods. We were also joined by the local community. In this first event, we planted 100 fruit trees in an area that was managed by an estate, so we are ensured of the survival of the trees.

The campaigns popularity and intent is still growing. With the success of the first, the ENSYDE has planned many more events in the years to come. The initial goal- to raise awareness- is showing signs of success. We have been approached by multiple individuals and companies in India to takeRegeneratreeto different cities and plant 1000’s more saplings to create carbon sinks.

We hope Regeneratree, revives the passion we once had to take care of our planet. We hope it stimulates the required actions that higher institutions must take to adapt to climate change. We hope it re-ignites the fire in our hearts and extinguishes the fires in forests.
